This video is from 13 years ago... now anno 2024 planar headphones are as cheap as 144 euro and come in a gaming headset called the Sony Pulse Elite for the Sony Playstation 5, and I am using them to listen to your video about the technology in this headphones. I doubt my Pulse Elite has goldleaf traces but they sure sound good and a lot more responsive in the entire frequency spectrum, which also clears up the sound stage a lot.

I have a hard time understanding that anyone would want better headphones than the 800s, especially after using them with proper equipment, for me they are the end of the game.

I have a lesser version, HD58X, but it's also fun to listen. Something interesting is HD58X and HD660S have exactly same sensitivity and impedance. So if your mobile device works well with HD58X, it'll work better with HD660S.

I have these and if you don't need noise cancelling these are very good, through an rme babyface pro they become impressive. Just added an ifi go bar and 4.4mm TRRS balanced cable from Oidio holy .... they sound astounding best things I have bought for digital (I have spent many thousands and nothing touches this upgrade). You might be able to tell I am very happy.

It's a terrific ally well tuned headphone, its not the best at any one thing, but certainly one of the best jack of all trades cans out there.

I have this headphones and the sundara, ananda V3, and sennheiser hd600. The he400s is the best one out of the lot. Second place for me is the hd600, third is the sundara and easily in last place is the ananda V3. Adding a touch of bass on the EQ makes it sound even better.

Thanks for the video. I have an old pair of 580s. The sound used to cut out if the lead wiggled where it connects to the the headphone. Sounds like a possible worn spring! Where around the world can you buy trusted springs that will fit and work, please? Same question for headband padding and ear pads?

I converted a set of these to a very handy USB-C charged, Bluetooth-adapted headphones with a cheap part, and some soldering skills. Much shorter cable wires now, too. :) 10/10 - with the advice to stretch the living hell out of them! They're definitely "On Ear", so they need to be not tight.

This is comparable to a rotten tomatoes review to a fun and entertaining blockbuster with an awesome atmos track. The Z1R is such a fun headphone where music just takes you away from daily stressors.

Did Tyll ever manage to review the Hifiman Ananda? He is still the only reviewer i trust. All the current youtube headphone reviewers talk a load of rubbish. I listened to them when they told me the ananda was better than the sundara, but they are all frauds. Incompetent cowards every single one of them. The Sundara is better than even the V3 Ananda Stealth. These new youtube reviewers can't tell the truth like Tyll used to.

Listening on some brand new Focal Clears

All I have had till the end of 2023 were gaming headsets. I made the bright choice of buying hd 600s. Also got a good amp to go along. At first I had mixed feelings. The built quality was great, sound too but they sounded so different that it seemed off, they were accurate though 100%. After 4 months of using them I can with certainty say I can never go back to any other headset or pair. I have tried 650s and they are warmer but 600s are to my liking. Great for everything and comfortable af.

I just bought a pair of these yesterday off Facebook marketplace for $70. They were practically new. I recall when they were released and, as many were, confused about what they were for. When I decided to give them a try they were off the market. The person who sold them to me was just as confused but had them for years, not using them, as they were a gift. Happy to have them today and saved a lot of money. 👍

Happy to stumble upon this video. My HD 58x Jubilees decided to lose sound on right side after 6 years of use. Just had to pop off the frame and the driver just fell in my hands. Put the springs back home and we have sound again.

Hi! So I am a bit late to the FOCAL Clear Party although I have owned the Focal Elegia (switching the earpads to the Dekoni Elite Sheepskin brand) for over a year for my closed-back option and have enjoyed it. I understand there is a new version of the Clear out now called the Clear MG however there was such a tremendous sale price on The Clear OG you reviewed in this video that I just couldn't pass it up so I ordered and I am anxiously awaiting its arrival. I also ordered the Dekoni Elite Velour Earpads because I have heard from some reviews that these replacements may take a little bit of edge away from from that sometimes slight gritty treble you mentioned. Because this video is six years old now, perhaps this is a remedy you may have tried for yourself and, if so, I am interested in earing your thoughts and opinions. Thank you for the help your video supplied and I also just subscribed!!!

In this year I have purchased HE-500 in perfect condition. I have watched this old video from Tyll Today and all is still valid after 12 years. They still rocks ! All the best to you Tyll, hope you are OK !

I have (IEM) Oriolus Traillii, Unique Melody Fabled Sounds, Unique Melody Amber Pearl pair the Sony M2. I also have this headsets with sony ta-zh1es. Yes, I have very expensive toys. My IEM are very good but No way near Z1R headphones. Totally disagree with this review. You have lost all credibility with this odd review. This is one dumb son of a beach. Really dude? You would pick a $150 headset over this?
